Kojie San Face Lightening Cream | Review

Updated: Sep 11, 2020

Before anything else, I believe in loving the skin you are in. I'm saying this because the "lightening cream" might be a trigger for those who fight for natural beauty. I do not blame them. For many decades, the standard for beauty in the Philippines are the porcelain-skinned mestizas.

Although I also believe that anyone who would like to enhance themselves in any way should do so. And no social standards should stop them.

Beauty nowadays is whatever you feel confident in.

In that sense, let's get into my review of Kojie San Face Lightening Cream.

How did I even discover this product? Many of my close friends know that I had been religiously using the Kojie San Kojic Acid Soap for a long, long time now. Ever since I've started college up to my current working adult years, I use this soap for my face and body. I'd say it has been seven years and it has worked wonders for me.

But after an all-day activity at Tadlac Lake mid-August, I needed extra lightening power for my face! I only used an SPF 50 PA ++++ everyday sunscreen, thinking that it's just an overcast day. No harsh sun rays beaming.

I should've known better. Remember to use a waterproof-type sunscreen for your face! Don't be lazy. It will be worth it.

Laresio Trip with my college friends last August 18, 2019.

Third (3rd) pic was before going home. My skin was still feeling alright. I still haven't felt the effect of being all day under the sun despite the sunscreen.

After the trip, I immediately searched for ways to bring back my original skin tone. One that complements my face soap. Hence, the #KojieSan Face Lightening Cream. This cream is readily available at supermarkets and drugstores. I bought this one last September 1, 2019 at a Watsons branch for Php 119.75 per 30grams of cream. Just look for the iconic geisha face on the box. The OG kojic product.

This face cream comes in a white box and a white plastic container. As you can see, there is a protective seal in the box so you are sure that the product that you're getting is safe to use. The batch number, manufacturing date, and expiration date are at the bottom of the box. There is also a plastic lid under the twist-off cap. That's double the protection for the cream. The downside is that you will use your fingertips in applying the product if you do not have a mini spatula.

Lightweight cream from Kojie San.

This is how it looks on the skin:

It blends easily and does not leave a cast. A small amount goes a long way.

Will it work? Let's see!

August 17, 2019 is the day before the lake trip. My face is in great condition. I was only wearing a light layer of foundation. Compare it to August 22, 2019, just a few days after the trip. My skin was a tone deeper and it had texture. The tan was peaking through the foundation.

That was my skin's condition in the first two weeks. It was even flaking off because of the sunburn. On top off that, my face was also breaking out. So for those two weeks, I only used the Kojie San Face Lightening Cream during the day. Then, aloe vera gel at night to heal the flakiness. After my face has gotten rid of the peeling, I continued to use the product day and night. There's a tiny bit of sting on the skin but it fades eventually. Oh, and do not forget your sunscreen after the cream during the daytime.

There were times when the foundation and concealer do not hold on to my face. It's frustrating. It kept reminding me of not using the proper sunscreen during that trip. There were days that I do not even want to put on makeup. My foundation does not even match my face anymore. Even my co-workers notice the awful state of my skin. But we gotta go out and face the world and fight!

I used up the product for almost a month. I'd say it's worth it for its price since it is only 30grams of cream. And you can see the effect of the product on my face. On my forehead, which was the most exposed under the sun, it has finally evened out with the rest of my face, (see photo: October 7, 2019). My foundation finally matches me again!

PROS

  • Affordable

  • Lightweight

  • Love the powdery scent.

CONS

  • No mini spatula included.

  • Mild stinging on the skin when applied.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Like their soap, this cream is definitely effective. In just a month, this cream has served and delivered. I'd recommend it to anyone who would like to get brighter skin as long as you use the kojic soap with it. AND TONS OF SUNSCREEN.

Although I wouldn't purchase this again. I'm good with having my real skin tone back. I wouldn't want it to go any lighter than this. Right now I am more focused on products that could control my breakout. And that is for another blog post. 😉

'Til the next review,
